EuroMed Justice has been very active in the field of international judicial cooperation in criminal matters. The most important achievements in this context are embodied by the creation of the CrimEx group, which already acts as a facilitator platform for judicial cooperation, and the establishment of the EuroMed Forum of Prosecutors General.

In parallel to these accomplishments, EuroMed Justice has implemented other activities focusing on complex criminal cases. In this context, EuroMed Justice organised study visits on 26-28 March 2019 at the premises of the EU Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) agencies (Eurojust, Europol, and the European Judicial Network (EJN)), international courts (the International Criminal Court and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals), and the Dutch Prosecution service.

On this occasion, criminal justice practitioners from Southern Partner Countries (SPC) met and interacted with practitioners working at these institutions and agencies, who presented best practices for the investigation and prosecution of complex transnational criminal cases, in particular organised crime, cybercrime, terrorism, money laundering, smuggling of migrants, and human trafficking.

The study visits covered thematic fields identified as priorities in the EuroMed region and focused on transferring the European agencies and international institutions’ know-how, experience, best practices, as well as cross-border operational techniques of cooperation – such as the organisation of joint investigation teams, or cross-border assets recovery.

EuroMed Justice is managed by a consortium led by FIIAPP (Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Publicas, Spain) in partnership with CILC (Center for International Legal Cooperation, the Netherlands), EIPA (European Institute of Public Administration, the Netherlands) and JCI (Justice Coopération Internationale, France). CILC was closely involved in the organisation of this study visit to The Hague.
