In a landmark event, the Prosecutors General from the Northern and Southern shores of the Mediterranean adopted a declaration establishing the EuroMed Forum of Prosecutors General - the first of its kind - and a roadmap implementing it. The overall objective of the Forum is to strengthen judicial cooperation in fighting terrorism and serious cross-border and organized crime through the establishment of a mechanism of coordination and consultation, so as to build at high level trust and confidence. This event, hosted by the Spanish Prosecutor General’s Office, gathered prosecutors general from 8 South Partners Countries (DZ, EG, IL, JO, LB, MA, PS, and TN) and from 6 EU Member States (BE, CY, FR, MT, PT, and ES), as well as representatives from the major international and regional organizations and networks (including the President of Eurojust, EJN in criminal matters, the President of CCPE at the Council of Europe, the Chief of the Terrorism Prevention Branch at UNODC, UNCTED and IAP).
The members of the Forum gathered for the second time at Eurojust’s premises on 30-31 January 2019 to discuss their thematic priorities and a possible framework for the Forum. On 31 January 2019, the Forum approved their ‘General Rules’
